2. Chinese training course of Grammar School students

2.1 Objectives

Learners know and master Chinese phonetics, HKS1 vocabulary.  Gain preliminary knowledge of basic sentence structure, the system of Chinese characters. Learners can understand basic, simple and limited language materials, closely related to personal and daily activities, with occasional help of body language, material objects and proper context. Know interpersonal relations in Chinese culture, and know simple social etiquettes and customs in Chinese culture.

2.2 Linguistic knowledge

Phonology

​

1. Proficiency in Chinese pronunciation, including 21 initials, 39 finals, 4 tones, neutral tone.

2. Grasp tone sandhi of "yi" and "bu"; spelling rules in Pinyin.

Character and Word

​

1. Can recognize 180 Chinese characters and write 50 simple single-component characters.

2. Understand the basic knowledge of Chinese characters, including the concepts of strokes, parts, single characters and fit characters, as well as methods and skills for writing Chinese characters.

Grammar

​

1. Basic sentence structure: Subject+ Verb+ Object;

2. Typical Chinese Grammar: Topic+ description

3. Interrogative questions.

4. Sentences with an adjectival predicate
